SANTA BARBARA, CA - Indie/folk singer-songwriter Wryn (they/them), “reminiscent of songwriters like Angel Olsen or Julien Baker” (-NPR), has released Shapes, their Righteous Babe Records debut album today! The album is available on vinyl, CD, and digital. Wryn will support Ani DiFranco on UNPRECEDENTED SH!T: THE TOUR beginning April 7th at The Pabst Theater in Milwaukee. Listen to Shapes HERE.
During a period of deep transformation that began four years ago, Wryn embarked on a journey that brought outward changes: to their moniker, sound and gender identity. This reinvention, in sound and spirit, became the ethos of their new album, aptly called Shapes. Produced by Bella Blasko (The National, Gracie Abrams, Taylor Swift), the album features performances by Mike Lewis (Bon Iver) and JT Bates (Bonny Light Horseman, Big Red Machine).
“These songs are gifts. I’ve grown, discovered, and changed so much through them and alongside them,” says Wryn. “Making this album happen has been a steady, faithful journey held by many hands of wonderful people. I am so excited to let Shapes out into the world.”
In 2024, Wryn released the first single “Steady,” a personal anthem about uncertainty, the meaning has only deepened for them after being diagnosed recently with a rare neurological disease, AVM (arteriovenous malformation). Three additional singles following in 2025: “Snake,” a song with a raspy intimacy that recalls Sharon Van Etten; “Slow Down,” about noticing those bursts of joy in the middle of everyday chaos - being present, and recognizing that those moments are fleeting, which is exactly what makes them so meaningful; and most recently “Only Thing,” a love song about learning to let go of what you can’t control.
