Arts and Education
Our program provides music history and theory as well as instrumental instruction and ensemble performance preparation. We serve kids ages 9-14 from low-income households, and provide our students with hot meals and round-trip transportation to reduce common barriers to participation. Five days a week, 12 months a year, our program delivers over 2,500 hours of music education and other academic tutoring, over 30,400 nutritious hot meals, 1,400 bus journeys, and supplies over 150 instruments for student use.
Music is Art's most successful program is our instrument program. Since starting the program we have placed over a half million dollar's worth of musical instruments back into our community. We do this with the support of our generous community members. We accept new and used instruments year-round, have them repaired and refurbished and find them just the right home to continue to be used and loved.
The CMA Foundation and The Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation are hosting a citywide instrument drive that will benefit school music programs and their students. Round up those lonely instruments resting in your closet or garage, and put them in the hands of deserving kids who will truly enjoy bringing the music back to life. We have convenient drop-off times and locations throughout the greater Houston area. Thank you for helping students experience the joy of music-making with your generous donation to the Houston Instrument Drive!
Hungry for Music collects and distributes instruments including brass, woodwinds, strings, electric keyboards, drums and other percussion, as well as amps and accessories. Whether you have an instrument that you would like to donate or are a music teacher with a talented and committed student who can not afford their own instrument, we look forward to serving you.
The Magic Music Foundation accepts Donations of Pianos and other Instruments so that we can match the Instruments with Worthy Students, Teachers, and Organizations in need.
