SANTA BARBARA, CA - In a fast paced world, indie/folk singer-songwriter Wryn (they/them) pens a reminder to pause and reflect on “Slow Down,” their third single from the forthcoming album Shapes due March 28, 2025 on Righteous Babe Records and available for PRE-ORDER now (vinyl, CD, digital).
Created in March 2021 during a songwriting workshop, “at the time I was exploring the liminal - letting words flow out naturally while playing something meditative on guitar, untangling the meaning after the fact,” explains Wryn of the unique way in which “Slow Down” derived.
What flowed from that session was “a winding folk confessional, centered on a warm vocal and acoustic melody,” observes Under The Radar who premiered the song and video earlier this week. “Wryn’s lyrics come out in a conversational tumble, mirroring the meandering guitar line as they meditate on the fleeting passage of time: Turn around and body is floating / Even now in this moment / Almost forget outside this window / All of the world keeps turning / Without anyone to tell the spinning to slow down.”
“Slow Down” was preceded by the raspy Sharon Van Ette-esque “Snake” and personal anthem “Steady,” released in 2024. All will be available on the Bella Blasko produced debut Shapes.
Following the album release, Wryn will accompany Righteous Babe founder/artist Ani DiFranco on the April run of the "Unprecedented Sh!t” Tour. Full list of dates with Wryn as support listed below.
ABOUT WRYN
Wryn is an avant/folk singer-songwriter based in Lompoc, a small city north of Santa Barbara, CA. During a period of deep transformation that began four years ago, Wryn embarked on a journey that brought outward changes: to their moniker, sound and gender identity. This reinvention, in sound and spirit, became the ethos of their new album, aptly called Shapes available March 28, 2025 on Ani DiFranco’s Righteous Babe Records and produced by Bella Blasko (The National, Gracie Abrams, Taylor Swift), and featuring performances by Mike Lewis (Bon Iver) and JT Bates (Bonny Light Horseman, Big Red Machine).
