Gracie and Rachel - Underneath (S. Carey Remix)
S. Carey's reimagining of Gracie and Rachel "Underneath" from their
September 18th released album 'Hello Weakness, You Make Me Strong.'
Gracie and Rachel say about the release: "We were very psyched when we heard Sean was interested in getting underneath our song, “Underneath.” His music is so ethereal and regenerative, and we’ve always admired his contemporary classical gestures, so it’s been really special to have him re-imagine this song. We love how he was able to nurture a more meditative quality to this tune, revealing its bones in some nuanced ways. The drum programming throughout feels like a cluster of digitized molecules all reacting to one another and their environment, and that felt fitting to the sentiment of searching for what’s beyond the surface layer."
The power of Gracie and Rachel’s particular alchemy—that of a secret language between musical sisters, with a preternatural melodic sensibility—has never been more potent or realized than on their upcoming sophomore record, 'Hello Weakness, You Make Me Strong.' The results are tidal, with more focus on billowing electronics and hints of dusky but sharply-defined baroque-pop cadences, 'Hello Weakness, You Make Me Strong' bursts open the pristine emotionality of Gracie and Rachel’s self-titled debut from 2017. That album quickly won the hearts of NPR fans who voted them to NPR’s Your Favorite New Artist, with Bob Boilen describing as having “a terrific tension in the sound, an underpinning of mystery set against a baroque, but modern, pop foreground.”
